World of Warcraft Addons that Help After World of Warcraft Addiction

OK, so you are addicted to World of Warcraft no more, but you still play sometimes. You probably know the sense of vertigo that comes every time you log in now. What was I doing last time? Why am I camped in Netherstorm? What quest was I working on? Or what is the next step in the chain?

First thing to get over is beating yourself up for not remembering. At least that’s the way it is for me. When I’m living, eating, breathing World of Warcraft ie, addicted, I know all things. (Or at least think I do.) Now I sometimes feel like I know next to nothing.

Back in the addicted phase, I considered it cheating to have to resort to great sites like thottbot.com and wowhead.com. Now they are my first line of reference. I don’t want to take time to wander around aimlessly. Tell me where it is and what I need to do. Thottbot and wowhead do that. (To be fair, there are other sites that fulfill the same role. Those are just the two I use.)

I’ve found two in game addons that I think help even more: Questhelper and Carbonite Quest. They do almost the identical thing. So try them both and use the one you like best.

Both keep track of your questlog and guide you through the most efficient route to completing the quests. If all members in a group use the same tool, it will consolidate the quest list and take all the quests into consideration which is a great help in avoiding the, “What should we do next?” discussions that can take up a lot of time.

Both mess up sometimes. But both get it right often enough to make them a great help. Questhelper stands on its own while Carbonite works even better with another addon named Cartographer installed.

The main reason I use Carbonite instead of Questhelper is that Carbonite shows you a path of where you’ve been recently. Its great for backtracking to get out of dungeons and so on.

Carbonite comes in a free version and a paid version. I use the paid one but the free one is a great help as also. Questhelper is totally free the last time I knew.

From what I’ve read there are addons that go beyond Questhelper and Carbonite. These |others |provide you guidance on which quests are worth your time. But since I’m the kind that likes to follow story lines through, I haven’t looked into them.

Do you know about other time saving addons? Tell me about them. You can either write them up yourself for me to post at myworldofwarcraftaddiction.com (giving you credit of course) or alert me to them and I’ll write something up. I’ve already thought of a couple more addons that I’ll be writing up in the near future.
