Wicked Melbourne – wickedly green production – now in Australia
In July of 2008, Wicked Melbourne made it to the stages of Australia. This is an astonishing story of two witches – the good and the bad – from the magical land of Oz (yes the Wizard of Oz). The emerald shading of the Wicked Witch of the West surrounds the stage and captivates audiences as many show up clothed in green.
Since 2003, Wicked Melbourne has been entertaining audiences around the world. Since its original debut, the production has brought in over $1-billion in ticket sales and has appeared in front of over 15 million audiences. Wicked Production House has outdone themselves, time-and-time again, and is continuing to do so in Australia.
Wicked Melbourne is a story about the two witches from the old story the Wizard of Oz. The good and the bad witch know and befriend each other as children, yet begin to lead separate lives, as they grow older. This story is very realistic to anyone – who has had a friend – watching. Everyone can relate to this story, and at least one of the main characters.
The book, written by Winnie Holzman, which is based off of a novel written by Gregory Maguire, gives a solid foundation for the play. Between the music – composed by Stephen Schwartz – and the Wicked Production House – the story comes to life and gives audiences an enthralling story, and a completely new look at the Wizard of Oz.
The portrayal of Wicked Melbourne mesmerizes the audiences at each appearance. In just 12 months, Wicked Melbourne sold over 2-million dollars worth of tickets; reviews are just as astonishing as the show. The day after opening day in Australia, – July 12, 2008 – box office records were broken with sales of over 1-million dollars. The reviews and hype are very true; it is a show worth watching!
Children and adults – of all ages – will find Wicked Melbourne enjoyable. Whether it is the amazing creatures that capture the children’s attention or the dramatic relationships that keeps adults attention – the show is action packed. Matinee times are 1 and 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Saturday, and / or Sundays – perfect times for the whole family to enjoy.
After a long renovation, the Regent Theatre reopened in 1996. This renovation allowed for an even more luxurious ambiance for audiences. Not only will you enjoy the performance itself, but the atmosphere as well. Melbourne’s Regent Theatre is the perfect location for a show of this nature, making it more realistic than ever.
Whatever you are planning, a night or weekend away from home, a family outing, or simply enjoying a show – Wicked Melbourne is the answer! Wicked Melbourne will provide you with hours of entertainment you cannot receive anywhere else. You will be so enthralled by the story and the show you will think you are there. (There is a luxurious bed and breakfast – Georgian Court – located near the theatre for those of you staying the night or entire weekend in the area.)
