What is the best Electric Guitar?
There is no such thing as the best electric guitar. However, there are very definitely good electric guitars out there. So what makes a good electric guitar? People like one electric guitar over another for 3 reasons.
It’s easy to play, it sounds great and it looks great.
Good electric guitars make playing easy. They don’t get in your way when you are trying to express yourself through your music. Generally, this means they feel comfortable in your hands, and more precisely they will have a good action, (or clearance of the strings), so they are easy to fret.
Good electric guitars have a great sound and tone. This can be down to the wood they are made from, although most of the tone comes from the pickups they have, so these are more important when it comes to making a great noise. Good pickups sound good even when the volume is low, and they don’t have any annoying resonances. They should sound good at any volume and through any reasonable amplifier.
A good looking guitar is likely to be a good sounding guitar as well. If someone has put in the effort to make a guitar look good, then they will have put the effort in elsewhere too. Nobody makes guitars that sound great but look terrible, they just wouldn’t sell. And nobody wants to be seen with something that looks like a badly painted plank round their neck. If you feel good, you play better. So a good looking electric guitar can be a great guitar.
So if you find an electric guitar that meets all of these points, then there’s no real reason you won’t like it for many years to come, and that’s what good guitars are all about – The pleasure of playing music yourself.
