Watch Skins Online — A Fascinating teen drama from the UK
Skins is a BAFTA-winning comedy teen drama that follows a group of adolescents from Bristol, England as they mature. Now in its third series, the show was created by father and son television writers Bryan Elsley and Jamie Brittain for Company Pictures, and premiered on E4 on 25 January 2007.
It was declared in April 2008 that all of the master cast (except Kaya Scodelario and Lisa Backwell) will be supplanted for series 3. Bryan Elsley said: “There are dangers associated with ditching a cast, but we just did it.
There was some anxiousness at the channel, but then they told us just to go with it.” Talking at Broadcast’s television drama group discussion, he also affirmed the show would hold fast to its pattern of bringing in college-age roles, moving them on in the next series, then getting rid of them.
“The first year is about getting to know the kids, and the second gives us the advantage of being able to research their minds a little more,” said Elsley. Creator Jammie Brittain said that the following cast would be quite different from the original characters, although people may still spot some laws of similarity. The new cast was brought out through on-line tease videos on December 2008.
Filming of the third series or season began on July 23, 2008. It premiered on the 22nd January 2009 at 10:00pm on E4, and the beginning part of episode one has been useable for looking at on the E4 website since 15 January. Trailers began across the Channel 4 family of channels on 2 January 2009, showing the new cast making mayhem in a pub.
It seems that this show has taken the TV world by storm. This is true not only in the UK, but in the USA as well. Skins is being shown on BBC America, though it is 2 seasons behind the ones being shown in the UK. Kids in America are wild about the show almost as much as the British.
