Stagecoach: One of the awesome American films, and a landmark in the aging of the Western, balancing personality research as distinct passengers voyage together on the identical stagecoach and peerless action in a long Indian assault, characterizing Yakima Canutt’s renowned-stunt work. Additionally, this is the film that launched John Wayne to authentic stardom. Mitchell won an Oscar as the intoxicated physician, as did the music score. Script by Dudley Nichos, from Ernest Haycox’s tale “Level to Lordsburg” whose structure is comparable to Man de Maupassant’s Boule de Suif. Cast includes Claire Trevor, John Wayne, Andy Devine, John Carradine, Thomas Mitchell, Tim Holt, Tom Tyer, and Jack Pennick. (96 minutes, 1939)
Company of Killers: Gunman (Saxon) performing for Kill Inc. gets to be target for his bosses and the city cops after a key witness is shot down. Bites off more than it can handle. Cast includes Van Johnson, Ray Milland, John Saxon, Brian Kelly, Fritz Weaver, Clu Gulager, Susan Oliver, Diana Lynn, and Robert Middleton. (88 minutes, 1970)
Batman And Robin: The villain Mr. Freeze is trying to take over Gotham City, by freezing the town into submission. With the beautiful villain Poison Ivy trying to form a rift between Batman and Robin, the duo has a lot to deal with. As always they somehow find a way to come out on top.
Class Action: Jeb Ward is an attorney specializing in class action cases. He is taking the case of a man suing a big auto company for a safety issue, which has had a huge affect on the man’s life since his accident. To spice things up, the defense team will be led by his daughter.
Blue Chips: Pete Ball, a straight-laced college basketball coach is talked into looking the other way when boosters start to help convince new recruits to come play at the university. The thought of cheating the way they are is too much for Ball. After beating then number 1 Indiana, Pete goes to the press conference and tells the whole world what he and his university are doing, and then he resigns.
Heart and Souls: 4 distinct San Franciscans die in a bus mishap in 1959, and find that they are inexorably connected with a infant who has been born at that same precise minute. Whats more, only he might see and hear them. This is an awesome showcase for Downey whose body is inhabited, at assorted times, by his heavenly friends. Fans of slushy, emotional, old-styled Hollywood fantasies should like this movie, others take heed. Cast includes Robert Downey, Jr., Charles Grodin, Alfre Woodard, Kyra Sedgwick, Tom Sizemore, David Paymer, Elisabeth Shue, Eric Lloyd, and Bill Calvert. (104 minutes, 1993)
Frantic: Dr. Richard Walker and his wife Sondra are in Paris for the doctors medical conference. Then suddenly Sondra is gone. Then, in a foreign country getting no help, Dr. Walker frantically tries to track the kidnappers down.
Mr. Peabody and The Mermaid: Gentle comedy-fantasy by Nunnally Johnson has its minutes, with unsuspecting Powell finding a pleasant mermaid when fishing. Powell makes anything look excellent. Cast includes William Powell, Ann Blyth, Irene Hervey, Andrea Emperor, and Clinton Sundberg. (89 minutes, 1948)
Li’l Abner: Vigorous Gene DePaul-Johnny Mercer lyrical based on Broadway rendition of AI Capp’s cartoon; loud and brassy, with cheesy comedy, some excellent melodies. Stubby Kaye is fine as Marryin’ Sam; other Dog-patch characters vividly enacted. Look acute for youthful Valerie Harper and Beth Howland amid the chorus gals. Cast includes Peter Palmer, Leslie Parrish, Stubby Kaye, Howard St. John, Julie Newmar, Stella Stevens, Billie Hayes, and Robert Strauss. (113 minutes, 1959)
