I wrote this article in order to help producers around the world learn more about selling beats online without a label or a connection. It’s not nearly as hard as you might think and it’s a highly profitable business!

Making music has always been my age old passion. Ever since I was about 10 years old it was my dream to make a full time income selling my beats, and now I’m happy to say that I’ve achieved this goal. The first thing you need to know as a beat salesman is obviously the answer to a simple yet important question: what are the best websites for selling beats? There are plenty of websites online for you to license your instrumentals, but my personal favorites are listed below (in order of effectiveness).

1. Soundclick- This is the best website for selling beats online in my opinion. If you Google “beats”, you’ll find that Soundclick is the first authority site that comes up. More than 1,000,000 producers are currently signed up on Soundclick.com and it has almost always been the first choice of producer’s trying to market their beats. If you don’t have a Soundclick account, you need to sign up immediately.

2. MySpace- Selling beats on MySpace can be as easy as taking candy from a baby. The trick is to establish relationships with as many rappers as you can and use soft selling techniques to push your product. This means not directly selling your beats, but instead forming relationships and “selling” later on down the road.

3. MyBeatShop- I don’t use this website nearly as much as the first two, but it definitely has a reputation of being one of the best beat selling sites on the web. MyBeatShop takes care of all the payment processing and delivery processes once your beats get sold. This makes things a lot easier because you don’t have to deal with all the technical stuff.
