Remastered Pink Floyd: The Discovery Studio Album Box Set

Pink Floyd’s new remastered “Discovery” CD boxset is the most anticipated classic rock box set release since The Beatles remastered box sets from 2009.

This box set contains 16 CDs. That’s all 14 Pink Floyd studio albums from 1967 through 1994. The box set contains 16 discs instead of 14 because 2 of their studio albums are double albums (Ummagumma and The Wall.)

While many Floyd fans already own all of their albums, what makes this new box set exciting is that it features newly remastered versions of each of these albums. They were expertly digitally remastered by a producer named James Guthrie. In 1979 he co-produced The Wall.

For people who are not yet familiar with the band’s back catalog this new box set is an amazing way to discover it (hence the name.) What better way to hear Pink Floyd’s incredible music for the first time than with excellent remastered sound? I would suggest listening to these albums in chronological order so you can hear Pink Floyd’s awesome progression from their “interstellar” beginnings with the original lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist Syd Barrett to the David Gilmour era in the 1980s and ’90s.

And there are those fans who know their very popular albums such as The Dark Side of the Moon like the back of their hand but who have never really listened to the band’s other great albums. I’m a big fan of Meddle, Animals, and The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. In fact I enjoy all three of those albums more than The Wall

In addition to the Discovery CD Box Set, there are also three “Immersion” box sets coming out; one box set for each of their three most well known albums; 1973′s The Dark Side of the Moon, 1975′s Wish You Were Here, and 1979′s The Wall. Each of these box sets contains from 5 to 7 discs focused just on that album! That may seem like overkill to some casual fans, but these are really amazing albums and really do deserve that intense level of “immersion.”

The Pink Floyd: Oh By The Way Box Set is the “old way” of buying all of the band’s albums in one go. It contains the old versions of their studio albums.

The Dark Side of the Moon Immersion Box Set and the Wish You Were Here Immersion Box Set are the big prizes for many serious Pink Floyd fans.
