Puzzle Games Would Be The First Entertainment Source Today
The standard definition for puzzle games could be logistical problems requiring using applied ideas to solve for the answer. There are some puzzles, in fact, that are so complex that those in the mathematics field consider them more then just a game. If a solution to one of these simple mathematics problems can be found then it is considered to be a significant contribution to study regarding this field.
Obtaining solutions to these types of games are most frequently not easy tasks to accomplish. The only requirement for some puzzle games is determine a simple pattern while others may require objects to be put into the correct order before the solution is found.
Not everyone has a talent for solving puzzles. In fact, an individuals distinct method of problem solving can prevent them from doing well with one type while they excel at another. Inductive reasoning skills usually come in handy for solving patterns and ordering puzzles. In the same sense, those that are better with deductive reasoning will typically do far better with puzzles that involve inquiry and discover before an answer can be found.
This history of puzzle games can be traced all the way back to the 1700′s. John Spilsbury created the first jigsaw puzzle in 1760 to aid in teaching geography to students and until the 1800′s this was the primary use for jigsaw puzzles.
Newspapers started using puzzles in the early 20th century to draw in additional readers. Puzzles were printed in the papers for individuals entertainment. I’m sure we are all aware of the famous Sunday crossword puzzle, right?
Over time of puzzle games there has been several puzzle creators, most of which are more famous then others. A few of the more notable puzzle creators include Martin Gardner, Will Shortz and Sam Loyd.
Martin Gardner’s name is much more generally connected with his “Mathematical Games” column that ran from 1956 to 1981. In his time he published over 70 books and some even believe the widely accepted term “mathemagician” first came from his mouth.
Will Shortz worked for Penny Press Magazine then as an editor for Games Magazine during which he founding the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament in 1978. In 1992 he turned around and also founded the World Puzzle Championship and became the director of america Puzzle Team.
Sam Loyd was a famous chess player who at one point in his life was ranked 15th in the world. He enjoyed creating elaborate chess puzzles with unique themes, but his tendency to create elaborate chess moves was also considered his fault. He often favored the unique combination’s and only simple moves to win the game. Loyd died in 1911, but up until then he claimed to have been the inventor of the “fifteen puzzle”. Skeptics today say that statement is false which his puzzle was only an adaptation.
Puzzle games happen to be part of culture for several years and today they have even made their way in to the electronics world by form of video games. Letter and word games used on computers are often used to teach children learning to read and write while games like Tetris and Resident Evil are popular console games based upon puzzle solving skills.
