Post World of Warcraft Addiction Addons

When you get past World of Warcraft addiction, you don’t play nearly as much. Makes sense, right? But one of the side effects of not playing as often is that disorientation when you do sit down to play again. What the heck was I doing last time I played? Where was that quest giver? Or maybe where were those pesky Timbermaw anyway?

Don’t worry, it happens to all of us. When you are perpetually logged on, its easy to pick up the pieces from last session. But when days or weeks go by in between, we all need some help.

When I was addicted, I didn’t need resources like thottbot.com and wowhead.com nearly as much. In fact, I had a certain disdain of them. Now I refer to them all the time. There are other sites that do the same thing too by the way. Those are just the two that I use most.

I’ve found two in game addons that I think help even more: Questhelper and Carbonite Quest. They do almost the same thing. So try both of them and use the one you like best.

Both keep track of your questlog and guide you through the most efficient path to completing the quests. If all members in a group use the same tool, it will consolidate the quest list and take all the quests into consideration which is a great help in avoiding the, “What should we do next?” discussions that can take up a lot of time.

Both addons will lead you astray on occasion. But both work correctly the vast majority of the time. I think Carbonite benefits from having the Cartographer addon installed as well. Questhelper you can pretty much all by itself.

Lately I’ve been using Carbonite instead of Questhelper for one reason. Carbonite shows you the path of where you’ve been. As someone who is constantly getting lost in dungeons, I find this feature a great help.

Carbonite comes in a free version and a paid version. I use the paid one but the free one is a great help as well. Questhelper is totally free the last time I checked.

From what I’ve read there are addons that go beyond Questhelper and Carbonite. These |others |provide you guidance on which quests are worth completing. But since I’m the kind that likes to follow story lines through, I haven’t looked into them.

Let me know if you have suggestions of more time saving World of Warcraft addons. You can write up a brief review like this one and I’ll post it over at myworldofwarcraftaddiction.com or if you’d rather, I’ll write them up giving you discovery credit. In writing this I’ve already thought of a couple more I want to tell you about.
