Pixels and Satellite Hidef TV
When you are in the market for satellite TV, you need to have the proper equipment in order to receive the signal. Each satellite company has a signal that recognizes its own individual dishes. They do this to recognize which channels you have paid for and which ones you have not. If you switch satellite service, for instance, they need new equipment.
A small satellite dish can be installed to pick up the signal. The signal is sent to the receiver by a coaxial cable. The signal is decoded and sent by coaxial cable to the TV.
The video signal starts out from a broadcast that is encrypted and sent to an orbiting satellite via a MPEG-4 compressed signal. The dish on your roof captures that signal and sends it to your receiver along a coaxial cable. The receiver than unscrambles the coded signal with the proper algorithm so that only those with proper access get to view it.
The most common type of satellite orbit is the geostationary orbit. Because of the velocity of the satellite and the perfect balance between the gravitation force due to the earth’s pull, the satellite maintains a stationary orbit.
Then there is the SuperDish. A SuperDISH is slightly larger than the small satellite dish and is oval shaped. It is able to receive a signal from three satellite locations. The SuperDISH satellite antenna dish gives you the advantage of receiving even more programming (such as HD, locals or international) using a single dish solution.
High definition gives a clear and more lifelike picture since it has about twice the number of pixels as the old analog picture transmission. It usually comes in 2 formats: 720p – 1280×720 pixels progressive, 1080i – 1920×1080 pixels interlaced. The 1080i gives a sharper image for slow moving action and the 720p allows for a clearer picture when action is fast such as a horserace or basketball game.
Many people get fed up with cable TV raising their subscription rates. So once you have established you are looking to switch for a satellite TV you’ll get not only more broadcast channels, but less out of pocket expenses and a great discount on the service.
When you are looking for a competitive deal, there may only be one or two cable companies you can choose from in your area. But for satellite companies, there are only two.
