Indie Music Today And In The Course Of The Previous Decades
It’s amazing to think that another Decade has finished. Each Decade that passes leaves defining characteristics, whether in the News, or with the technological advances, or in the Genre of music that has been played. Well the music world of the last Decade has really been dominated by one Genre, and that Genre is the indie movement.
When you consider that New wave only lasted for the eighties, or Alternative rock only really lasted for the Nineties, it is unique to find that the indie movement is still going strong.
The younger bands of the last Decade wanted to test out different styles of music and this fuelled the indie movement, and surprisingly it is still as strong now as when it first started.
So what do you call indie music? It is generally associated with a band that has no ties to a corporate label, but there are now some bands about that have signed for major labels but still class themselves as indie.
Maybe it is just a case of being more creative with their style of music, and not bowing down to the sort of music that was played all the time in the top 40.
This type of creativity allows the Artists to expand on the different sounds, and because of this variety the indie movement may be around for quite a bit longer than anticipated.
It is always a good thing for music fans when something new comes along, but in the case of indie, where there is such a wide creative scope, it seems that indie is always going to be a new sound.
Most decades have a defining sound or music Genre, but in the case of the indie movement, I have a funny feeling that this may last longer than one Decade
