There’s either too much mumbo or too much jumbo in this oddball terror picture. Give it perverse points, albeit, for managing to work in a Korean Battle subplot and for projecting Walken as the life saver Gabriel. Cast includes Christopher Walken, Elias Koteas, Virginia Madsen, Eric Stoltz, Viggo Mortensen, and Amanda Plummer. (93 minutes, 1995)
Illuminata: Life, love, lust, and aspiration in a theatrical troupe in tum-of-the-2Oth century N.Y.C. al1hough the flavors are uniquely European. Playwright Turturro is in love with the corporation’s megastar/supervisor, and longs to have her act his latest play. Energetic, even campy, roles for a fine cast kindle this excellent-looking however often lumbering production, which plays like a French charade in dull motion. Cast includes Jolm Turturro, Katherine Borowitz, Susan Sarandon, Christopher Walken, Rufus Sewell, Beverly D’Angelo, and Donal McCann. (111 minutes, 1999)
Man in the Shadow: Welles champs his way through role of rancher responsible far supporter’s mortality. Chandler is the genuine sheriff. Cast includes Jeff Chandler, Orson Welles, Calleen Miller, and James Gleaan. (80 minutes, 1957)
Double Jeopardy: Set up to take the fall for her husband’s death, she is sentenced and serves time. Once released from prison she learns that her husband isn’t dead at all. With double jeopardy in play if he kills him now, she can’t be convicted of the crime.
10,000 B.C.: Warlords have attacked a small mountain tribe in ancient times. They have captured the beautiful Evolet. D’Leh, who loves Evolet, leads a small party of men prepared to go the ends of the Earth to save Evolet.
Searching For Bobby Fisher: Gripping, surefooted tirade, based on a real tale: A dad finds that his seven-year-old child has a prodigy for chess, and enters him in opposition, trailing scene of what this does to the boy’s conscience-and his pristine pleasure of the game. Poignant, heart-rending at times particularly for some parents and extremely well finished. The screenplay is by first-time director Zaillian, from the novel by Red Waitzkin, who’s the genuine-life chess whiz’s dad. Cast includes Joe Mantegna, Max Pomeranc, Joan Allen, Ben Kingsley, Laurence Fishburne, Tony Shalhoub, and Austin Pendleton. (110 minutes, 1993)
Di Donna: Agonizing domestic complications with a spouse of sixteen years old Giorgi, Manfredi gets to be infatuated with a nude rearview photograph and takes up with a model, who looks exactly like his spouse! Shocking location photography in Venice and a dense cast highlight this communal comedy. Cast includes Tom Gries. Charlton Heston, Jessica Walter, Bruce Dern, John Randolph, Diana Muldaur. (88 minutes, 1964)
