Beginners Guide To Play The Guitar

Learning the guitar is an amazing and rewarding hobby but do not think it is going to happen overnight. Even though it may look simple and there are some very easy songs to play out there, it will take a significant amount of time and practice to master. And where you go once you have mastered the basics is up to you. There are certainly many avenues that will open up when you are ready.

You should also be aware that your music taste may well change throughout your progress. You will here things that you have never heard before in a song that you think is good. Before you know it, you will go work it out and find you like it so much you’ll listen to more of this particular artists work. You’ll discover this particular person had influences they learnt from so you’ll go and give them a listen too. And on and on it goes.

To get started, it is important to know where some of the basic notes are located. The top two strings (the thicker ones in this instance) have a series of dots along the neck. If you learn these few notes, that is where most chords will have their root. From there you just slide the same chord shape along and you have a new chord! Learn one chord, learn 12 at the same time.

When you start hearing different things, you’ll notice there are many cool guitar players out there who don’t fit your usual tastes. But, there are excellent guitar players in all forms of music and you should take the time to listen to the more popular ones that get touted about. How about some Junior Brown? Who?

When starting out, you will proabably have a few songs in mind. But don’t limit yourself to one style. Your newly learned talents may well fit nicely in another style and when you play guitar, there is great satisfaction playing even songs you never even liked!

Take your time at the outset. Have a system of practice in place and don’t try and learn everything in day. Its going to take time and a few sore fingers. It will be a journey you may even find new things about yourself. After all, you are opening yourself up to new experiences.

Begin with the standard open chords. Once you have these, move on to the bar chords of which there are only two basic shapes at the beginning. You will soon find the minor bar chords from there and by then you should be able to play most songs out there.
