Addons Help World of Warcraft Addiction?

OK, so you are addicted to World of Warcraft no more, but you still play sometimes. You probably know the sense of vertigo that comes every time you log in now. What was I doing last time? Why am I camped in Dragonblight? What quest was I working on? Or what is the next step in the chain?

Everyone that has cut back on their World of Warcraft play time confronts the same thing. If you play all the time, you remember what you were doing. But if you play infrequently, spend half of each play session figuring out what you were doing last time and what you should be doing next.

When I was addicted, I didn’t need resources like thottbot.com and wowhead.com nearly as much. In fact, I had a certain disdain of them. Now I refer to them all the time. There are other sites that do the same thing too by the way. Those are just the two that I use most.

I’ve found a couple in game addons that I think help even more: Questhelper and Carbonite Quest. They do almost the same thing. So try them both and use the one you like best.

Both keep track of your questlog and guide you through the most efficient path to completing the quests. If all members in a group use the same tool, it will consolidate the quest list and take all the quests into consideration which is a great help in avoiding the, “What should we do next?” discussions that can take up a lot of time.

Neither addon is perfect. But both are right enough of the time to make them immensely worth installing. (Note: Carbonite Quest is even better with the Cartographer addon installed as well. Questhelper stands alone.)

I use Carbonite instead of Questhelper because it shows the route of where you’ve been. It makes it a piece of cake to find your way out of dungeons instead of wandering lost or maybe having to hearth out like I do sometimes.

I use the paid version of Carbonite but the free version is a great tool too just without some of the optional features. As far as I know, Questhelper is still free but I think I recall reading that they might have a paid version coming out as well.

I’ve heard there are addons that go beyond Questhelper and Carbonite. They not only guide you in the quests you already have but suggest which ones you ought to pick up and maybe even drop because they aren’t worthwhile. I haven’t looked into them too much because I kind of like completing all or most of the quests in an area before moving to the next.

Do you know of other time saving addons? Let me know. You can either write them up yourself for me to post at myworldofwarcraftaddiction.com (giving you credit of course) or alert me to them and I’ll write about them. I’ve already thought of a couple more addons that I’ll be writing up in the near future.
