The piano is by far the most sophisticated and elegant of all musical instrument. The vibrations emited by hammers drumming strings is how pianos create different sounds. Moreover, many people think that the piano is the hardest musical instrument to learn or master.

Unlike other musical instruments, it takes years of practice to learn and master a piano. Compared to other widely held musical instruments like guitars, learning to easily play a piano takes patience together with the memorization of every note and pitch.

Learning to play the piano may be hard but lots of famous musicians like Beethoven and Mozzart have made notable musical symphonies and styling with the use of pianos. In our modern age, various musical instruments are used to create and distribute all sorts of music and one essential musical instrument being used is the piano.

Pianos and other key instruments work in ways that separate them from other musical instruments. A piano’s contour, dimension, and built all play a role to its well-defined quality in generating sound and one is made by way of physical labor that is carried out by qualified and highly skilled workers.

Assembling a piano is a lot like manufacturing a car in an assembly line. The piano’s body, keys, strings, and other workings are manufactured independently and put together. Up to 12,000 sections make up one piano.

The Piano’s Frame

Building the frame of a piano needs hard but flexible wood and maple is a good source for this type of wood. Pianos that are made with straight frames are easier to fabricate than the ones that have curled frames such as grand pianos. In order to get the distinctive curve of a piano, many planks of thin maple wood are glued together, bent, and stored to become rigid.

The Piano’s Sound Board

A piano’s sound board should be elastic and bendable. The common material used is spruce because of its flexibility and this flexibility allows it to vibrate. It is vital to have a synchronization among the string and the sound board in order to give off a concise, clear and audible sound. The key to have this synchronization is a bridge and this bridge is the object why the sound board and the strings give off synchronized tunes.

The Inner Strings of the Piano

The piano’s strings totals up to 230 and are meticulously connected by a well skilled piano stringer. Attaching piano strings is both long and dangerous. The strings themselves are very sharp and can definitely cut the stringer’s hands and fingers.

The Piano Keys

The most distinct and noticeable feature on a piano is its keys. All 88 of them. These black and white blend are what enable piano players to make numerous musical compositions.

As soon as every one of the crucial parts of the piano have been joined together, it will go through an intense and careful tuning procedure called voicing. Voicing a piano demands somebody who has years of tuning experience as well as good hearing. To correctly tune each piano key, the piano tuner files each individual hammer that is connected to each individual key.

Once the piano has been tuned and toned, it can now be played by a good piano player or be used to train aspiring musician and become skilled at creating their own music.

Piano lessons for beginners used to require a teacher to come to your home, or you to theirs. But technology is changing all of that and the internet has made it possible to learn from home almost completely on your own. This article will look at the top 3 reasons to give piano lessons online a try.

1. Less Expensive: Taking piano lessons the traditional way can cost a lot. And although there are many benefits to studying the piano this way, it isn’t the only way available to do so anymore. You could easily spend $15 or more for a half hour lesson every week. This can add up to over $700 per year, and if you take lessons outside of the home you also have to factor in gas mileage. Using the internet to learn is a much less expensive way to learn.

2. Study at Your Own Pace: Choosing to learn online piano lessons via software allows you to study at your own pace. You can skip ahead to future lessons or slow everything down if you wish. A piano teacher won’t be able to control you and decide whether or not you are ready for a certain piece of music.

3. Choose Your Particular Interests: Unlike traditional piano lessons, where you have to play the pieces that are given to you by your instructor, you have much greater freedom to choose your particular interests with online piano lessons. While classical music plays an important role in learning technical skills and mastering theory, it can sometimes be pretty boring and will motivate you less to practice than if you get to play something you really want to play.

This article discussed 3 reasons to try piano lessons online. Choosing this way to study the piano is less expensive, allows you to study at your own pace and pick the kinds of pieces you really want to play.

Although it is a new way of learning a treasured instrument; the same principles exist for online instruction as they do for the traditional way of taking piano lessons. Don’t be afraid to give this method a try and decide if it will work for you.

Whether the lessons are for yourself or your child, online piano lessons for beginners is a fairly new way of learning…

Are you a newbie at the guitar and looking for quality lessons online? are you hoping to find guitar lessons beginners like you can pick up on fast? Finding a good program is not difficult if you know what to look for.

Online guitar lessons are a hot topic these days. The problem here is that a lot of programs out there tend to over complicate the learning process causing many would be guitar heroes to lose interest quickly. A program that focuses on making the learning process fun and interesting is key.

Tons of people are making their way to the internet and learning to master all kinds of instruments because of the affordability and freedom with online instruction. Online guitar lessons is just very convenient.

What is the main point to consider when choosing your online guitar lesson program? It should be fun and enjoyable so you will like learning.

Your beginners guitar course should be simple and fun so that you will enjoy practicing, therefore, learning more and learning faster. Your guitar course should begin with having fun while teaching you the basics. This is the point where one develop the groundwork for the basic principles of guitar.

Once you begin to be established in the basics you can then move on to the more advanced techniques. The more fun and enjoyable your learning process is, the better you will feel and the better you feel, the more you will want to practice and progress. It won’t be long before you will be up on stage.

Think for a second, how many individuals do you know who like doing something that makes them feel inadequate or incompetent? A good online guitar program should produce a sense of confidence in you as you progress.

There are many guitar lessons online with boat loads of “knowledge” which is good. There are not many programs that know how to “teach” the knowledge you need so choose a program that will make your learning curve enjoyable.

by Spencer (Spence) Strand

So many people have dreams to be the next starving musician due to band games coming onto the market. But just how likely are these games to train musicians?

Remember the electronic game Simon? With a similar theory, different colors and shapes moving across the screen that match buttons on your instrument. Or take the Vocal Mic where words move across the screen like the Karaoke machine. The point of the game is to copy what you see happening on the screen.

It has been proposed that such computer games do nothing to contribute to music. That games such as Rock Band and Guitar Hero are simply that ” games ” and they are not really good for anything.

I disagree.

Yes I would say that these games don’t teach musical skills so much as they are about play-acting being in a band and having fun. They are geared towards family fun and having a good time.

Although there can be more to it than that. Games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero can inspire a young person to take an interest in music. It can improve hand-eye coordination that is needed when playing a real instrument. Students can improve the dexterity and can learn a better sense of harmony, rhythm and tone. I like Rock Band especially and recommend to my drumming students as it helps them with limb independence (picture rubbing your belly and patting your head at the same time as an example.)

Some argue that such games turn students away from learning a real instrument. I feel in fact the opposite is true. Lets face it, you’re only going to get so far with a plastic guitar and cheap, artificial drum pads. If you are at all serious about music, the limitations of the game eventually force you to turn to real instruments in order to achieve your fix, and you will graduate to the real thing.

Over and over again there are students who have played such games and wanting more have moved on to the real instrument such as the drums, guitar, or bass. Many vocalists have have overcome their stage fright and moved on to discover a talent they had only dreamed of.

Such games are more than simply having fun. They create in people the desire to be more involved in music. Maybe even motivate a young person to learn a ‘real’ instrument for the first time. And isn’t that the whole point?

MIKE SELVON asked:

Nobody wants to learn to play the guitar by taking guitar lessons. If beginning musicians had their choice, they would be able to play the cool rock songs right from the start. But lessons are a necessity if you are not a prodigy.

Lessons help you to learn the fundamentals of music and the mechanics of playing a guitar. There is no question that it is boring to learn a couple notes at a time, but it is necessary in order to learn how to play the great rock songs that you want to play.

Taking guitar lessons is important if you have no music knowledge. It is important to first learn the notes and chords before trying to perfect your actual playing of the instrument. Picking up a guitar and playing it without any lessons is a phenomenon that only happens with prodigies.

If you are not a prodigy, you need lessons. Also, decide what type of music you want to play so you can pick the right teacher that will gear your lessons toward your desired type of music.

Lessons come in a variety of options. You can go the human route, but when you hire someone to teach you, make sure that you have plenty of money. Lessons can be costly. However, a teacher doesn’t have to be a retired band member in order to teach you to play, and play well.

Your teacher can be a neighbor, a parent, a friend, or an acquaintance. Just be sure that you hire someone who knows the guitar because they can love it all they want, but unless they can play, they won’t be able to teach you anything.

Another resource that is popular now is the Internet. You would be amazed at how many people offer free lessons, tips, and pictorial advice that explains exactly how to play the guitar. All you have to do is buy the instrument, log on, and go to any of the search engines and type in guitar lessons.

Besides, if you go this route, you can tell everyone that you taught yourself to play and they will think you’re a musical genius. The library has some good books that will give lessons, sort of, but they are often times from the dark ages and the only songs you will learn are the nursery rhymes that annoyed you as a child.

Sometimes people can be their own best teacher. If your desire is strong enough, you can do anything that you set your mind to. The senses are the greatest things that we have to learn with. Use your ears to listen to a guitar solo and try to mimic it by sound. Watch people with your eyes and memorize the way that their fingers are in position.

Take the time and learn how to read music. The lesson of reading music is invaluable, and it is universal. If you take the time to learn to read music, you will only have to learn the keys for any instrument. If one day you decide to expand your horizons and learn to play the flute, the cello, or the trumpet, the notes will never change, just the musical experience.

David Fishman asked:

Those who know how to play the instrument want to explore ways to improve their playing skills. When learning how to play the guitar you will here guitar jargon, these types of words were created so guitar people are able to communicate with each other in their own context.

The speed and confidence you have in making chord changes is key to mastering the guitar and successfully playing the instrument. You must make yourself comfortable with the position so that you will be able to execute correctly while playing the guitar. The pinkie is not used since it is the shortest finger and is not conducive to playing the guitar. Playing classical guitar is more inclined to figure work and plucking.

Whatever the reason you’ve got the guitar, learning to play online is a must. Let’s face it learning to play the guitar should be fun and not boring or frustrating.

Many people can not learn or find it boring to learn from a book, and many people find that private lessons are much to expensive, there is an alternative learn how to play buy DVD course or by learning online. When practicing playing the guitar each time your practice you will see how it the practicing paid off and maybe one day you will be a great guitar player.

When you first start out learning the guitar the positioning of your hands will feel strange and it will feel like you can’t move your hands correctly, to make this easier it is ok to look at where your fingers are positioned and as time goes on you will no longer need to do this. Learn how to play the guitar the correct way the first time and this will make it easier in the future, if you try to take shortcuts this will not help and actually make it harder for you to learn.

The remedy for this is of course to practice reading the sheet music without looking at the fret board. However, there are many learning processes going on at the same time when you practice on your instrument. A beginner should practice tuning the guitar so that he can become better and better at it. You will need to practice often, try to create a schedule by looking at a calendar and make a plan and stick to it. Most people like to make an appointment so it seems like you cannot miss it. Essentially, effective guitar practice consists of taking four elements of playing the guitar and incorporating them into your practice routine.

When you make preparation, timing, and warming up a part of your routine of how to practice the guitar effectively, you will see how quickly you improve your skills. Please, whatever you do, don’t take up the guitar if you are only going to practice the last hour before your lesson. But it does mean you need to set aside time to practice and commit to actually it.

When first learning the guitar the beginner should begin with the common chords, this will be the easiest way to begin. We’ve all been there soon after we get hold of our first guitar we know that to play anything people are actually going to listen to we need to “learn a few chords”.

Christopher Sung asked:

This article is devoted to learning how to play guitar (and even those just thinking about learning to play or giving the gift of music to a loved one) and how to approach gaining some kind of proficiency on the instrument. Now, we’ve all seen people playing the guitar at various times, sometimes on TV, sometimes up close (a real treat), playing various kinds of music and at varying skill levels. I think the hardest obstacle to overcome when you’re /www.activemusician.com”>learning how to play the guitar or thinking about starting is the thought that playing the guitar is only something musicians can do, or is only for people who are musically inclined. The simple fact is that anyone can learn to play the guitar. It’s just a matter of spending some time with it on a regular basis, and practicing in a manner that’s both fun and productive. Once it becomes part of your routine, it’s only a matter of time before your skill level and confidence develop.

When I started learning the guitar, there were a couple of learning aids I found to be indispensable. They include:

Learning to Play Guitar Chord Reference Book – This is really helpful when you’re not sure how to play an F chord or a B minor, or want to learn some other ways to play it

Artist Songbook – This is a songbook which has the piano, lyrics, and guitar chords to your artist’s favorite songs, and is great for learning how to strum and change from chord to chord

Classical Guitar Book – This helps you familiarize yourself with the feel of scales and arpeggios, and also improves your sight reading

Guitar Tab Songbook – As you progress, you’re going to want to play some of the guitar parts from your favorite songs note-for-note, meaning exactly as your favorite guitarist plays them. This type of book has the music for this both in standard notation and guitar tablature

I had a very insightful guitar teacher who started off each lesson by showing me a new chord and how to play it. Some good chord reference books that tackle these types of chords are the Whole Book of Guitar Chords and The First Book of Chords for the Guitar both written by Dan Fox. Once I had a feel for the chord, he would choose a song from a songbook from one of my favorite bands that used this chord (say a B minor or an A7) and would have me learn that song using an appropriate strum pattern. My mom played the piano, and would often visit the music store to buy sheet music songbooks from her favorite artists, so eventually I got her to buy me a few gems of this type:

Beatles Complete – This is a valuable book for two reasons. One is that it’s The Beatles. The second is that The Beatles composed songs with relatively few and very easy to play chords (“I Saw Her Standing There” has three), and also songs with many and often unorthodox chords (“Michelle” has, um, a lot), especially when used in rock music. This makes it a great vehicle for learning new chords incrementally via their songs

Neil Young – Decade – My brother wore out this recording and when I started playing some of the tunes from it on the guitar, it gave his little brother some instant credibility. Many of the songs in this book were recorded by Neil on the acoustic guitar, so it lends itself to the beginner who’s learning on an acoustic

Led Zeppelin Complete – This is a strange and beautiful book. It has the main guitar riffs for every Led Zeppelin song on the first five albums (I – IV and House of the Holy) but it’s in standard notation. I spent a summer learning every song in this book and not only did my guitar playing improve, but so did my sight reading

Eric Clapton Deluxe Revised – This contains some of the best songs from Cream, the Layla disc by Derek and the Dominoes, and some of Eric’s early solo work, but it’s unique in that it has a separate section with some of Eric’s best guitar solos transcribed. Eric is a great role model when you start learning how to play a guitar solo, because some of his solos are simple enough that they can be played by a beginning-intermediate guitar player (though it takes a lifetime to learn to play it with as much feeling as Eric)

Once we covered the chord of the week and the song that went with it, we would tackle a classical piece. One of the best classical books I can recommend, especially if you’re not a classical guitarist, is Classical Studies for Pick-Style Guitar – Volume 1. This book is great for developing your right-hand picking and also for developing your sight reading since all the music is in standard notation. There are some interesting pieces by Matteo Carcassi, which require you to arpeggiate various chords, and also some Bach Inventions that are arranged for duet guitar, so you can play with a friend. You can hear how this sounds in an on-line guitar lesson I created at WholeNote – Bach’s 8th Invention.

The one thing that’s changed over the past decade in sheet music for guitarists is the emergence of guitar tab songbooks. In the late 1990′s, an archive of guitar tablature files was collectively created and dubbed the On-Line Guitar Archives (OLGA), in which random guitarists from around the world created text files containing their own transcriptions of how to play your favorite songs by your favorite bands. The problem was that the quality and accuracy of the transcription was hit or miss. Sheet music companies finally wised up and started releasing accurate note-for-note transcription books, which were the real deal. In my day, you were a god if you could play the guitar solo, “Eruption”, played by Eddie Van Halen off Van Halen I, because you had to learn it by ear off the record, which is pretty much impossible. Today, you can just buy the Van Halen I guitar tab songbook and get all the music for Eruption both in guitar tab and standard notation. Oh, and they also throw in the rest of the songs from Van Halen I, and from Van Halen II, as well. I’ve always loved the whacked-out intro that Eddie plays in Mean Street, which opens the Fair Warning recording. The Van Halen Guitar Anthology Series has the tab for this, note for note, including every last harmonic, pick scrape, bend, and tap. It’s unbelievable. And it’s not just Van Halen. You can find similar guitar tab songbooks for The Beatles, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Matthews Band, Nirvana, Green Day, Audioslave and pretty much anyone else you can think of.

Finally, as you develop your practice routine, the one thing most often overlooked during practice is being able to play in time. When you start to get comfortable with chords and strumming, there’s a natural tendency to stop or to hesitate while switching between chords. A good metronome will make you aware of this and force you to play in time. The Qwik Time QT-7 Quartz Metronome is a good budget option and provides a good click, while the Wittner Wood Case Metronome w/ Bell and Cover is the kind you can hang onto forever and pass along from generation to generation (and I should know – I have one from my grandfather). The Fender MT-1000 Chromatic Tuner/Metronome is unique in that you get both a metronome and a guitar tuner in one convenient package. Very handy, indeed.

You too can learn to play the guitar today! Hopefully, this gives you a bit of direction as you learn to play the guitar. Remember that it’s simply a matter of spending some time regularly practicing some of the basics and then applying them to your favorite music. Keep expanding your knowledge of the basic chords and learn to play songs that use them, along with the strumming patterns of the tune. Combined with some classical pieces for dexterity and developing your sight-reading chops, you’ll be well on your way to mastering the guitar in no time!
