Not getting a tattoo and body piercing infection is the first lesson you should learn.

Body piercings have a greater risk of infection because they actually invade the epidermis and dermis layers of the skin. For this reason, more caution is required to prevent infection. Maintaining the area with washings and using the cream that your professional piercer or tattoo artist provides with their service.

Body piercings usually tend to get infected if they were clumsily done. To avoid this, you should make certain that you go to a highly regarded piercer that provides you with disinfected needles and materials. This is the first preventive step you can take to avoid infection.

Tattooing on the other hand is less likely to get infected due to the way tattoos are given. The ink is only introduced into the upper layers of the dermis. Yes bleeding can occur and this is normal, but tattoo needles are shallow needles and hold less risk of infection.

Be sure that your tattoo artist has a very good reputation and uses sanitized equipment. A number of experienced artists possess an autoclave to sterilize their equipment. The major risk of infection with tattooing is hepatitis C caused by using a dirty needle.

Inflammation, cloudy seepage, greenish scabbing, redness and tenderness on the site are some of the signs of an infection. Swelling, redness and itching on the area may be signs of an allergic reaction. You must inform your piercer or tattoo artist to any allergies to products because they might be using a product with latex. Sensitivity to inks may also cause allergic reactions.

Even if most piercing and tattoos are painful, the pain usually subsides after a few couple of days to a week. If your tattoo does not show any sign of healing, you should inform your piercer or tattooist and have them looked at it. In most cases like this they know what you tell you, need to do to cure the minor infection.

Lastly, if ever you do get an infection that has gone deeper into the skin, immediately get an advice from a physician. You may be asked to take antibiotics to help free your body from the infection. Time and again, this can be done without losing the piercing as well as not damaging your tattoo.

Many times, people who decide they want to get a tattoo can’t decide on what design to get. There are things you should consider before getting a tattoo such as; reasons for the tattoo, what you want your tattoo to say to others and what design you are looking for. The designs are the most important aspect of a tattoo.

To get a really unique, crazy or innovative tattoo, you should look at designs before committing yourself to one. You may want to mix different designs together to get the exact tattoo you want. This creates a very unique tattoo in that it is your own design from others work.

Decide whether you want your tattoo in color or black and grays. This can go a long way in making your tattoo unique. Colors sometimes fade but black and grays can last a lot longer.

When deciding to get a tattoo, be sure it is not for the wrong reasons. To simply put it, do not get a tattoo because it’s a fad. Tattoos are mirrors of you as a being, with sense of humor and your individuality.

Seek suggestions from a good tattoo artist. Don’t just get into the first tattoo parlor you see down the on the street. The majority of the professional tattoo artists are highly regarded and word of mouth drives more clients to them. These artists are generally more than the mediocre artists costly for good reasons! They also have excellent experience in their art and their reputation is a proof to this.

Decide what you want your tattoo to project to others. It should reflect something about you and tell others about you or your personality. Do research on designs you are considering. Finding out the meaning of a design may help you to decide what level to go with.

It is advisable, if this is your first tattoo, to start with a small one that can easily be covered by clothing. This way if you are unhappy with your design or the artwork, you can easily cover it up.

Finally, verify the pricing of tattoos. Getting a tattoo doesn’t have to be costly but just remember the popular quote, “You get what you pay”. All the time a more experience tattoo artists costs more for their work because they commit less mistakes have better art skills. Deciding on a fanciful, serious, extreme or simply explosive tattoo is a personal preference, as with all the tattoos. But in order to have the tattoo you want in the design you want can mean the difference having an excellent experience and a terrible one.
