Japanese people think that zodiac symbols have a lot to do with the life of a man and these symbols have a remarkable position in their history and present-day life. Until today, the belief based on the superpower of zodiac symbols dominates them. The root of these symbols is the Chinese custom of dividing time into 12 different blocks.

The zodiac symbols came into existence because of the zoning of time and direction into twelve different blocks. Each of these blocks is then given a name of an animal. Each zone has a different animal according to the Japanese tradition. People born in a particular zone are believed to have particular common personality traits in common with the animal of the zone.

Rat is one of these zodiac symbols and if you are born in the rat zone, according to the Japanese belief, you are good-looking, cool and faithful. Also you are blessed to be industrious, determined and moreover, you are a man of great ambitions.

Believe it or not, you possess sufficient potential for the success in life if you are born in the year of ox. You can stimulate others also and lead them to success. Quick-witted, eloquent and patient – all these great qualities suit you.

Do you belong to the tiger zone? Then you are utterly matching with tiger not only in your valour and wilfulness but also in your immediate reaction. You are able to console your dearer ones with a loving heart and you tend to think deeply on things. But it seems that you are a little egocentric also.

Rabbit stands for good fortune and great ambitions. People having this zodiac symbol are honest and are adored by others. Also they are fluent and possess exceptional abilities.

The Dragon signifies good health and energy along with wilfulness and short temperedness. Also they are considered to be brave, truthful, sensitive and reliable. People born in the year of the dragon are considered to be the most peculiar out of all the zodiac signs.

Powerful wisdom, deep thinking and taciturnity are the peculiarities that make the people born in the year of snake so particular. They tend to be money-wise and unfaltering.

Those who got horse as their zodiac symbol are usually successful in their financial life in the opinion of Japanese belief. Quick-wittedness and proficiency play a good role in their success. Most of them are talkative, short-tempered and and appear to be impatient also.

Astronomy can be a life long pursuit and as with many things, even very serious things, people often become interested at an early age. This exciting science can provide hours of study, which is why astronomy is popular with children and their parents. For children, many parts of astronomy are magical and thus a huge draw. Movies like Star Wars only serve to increase this attraction.

The Earth’s nearest celestial body is the moon. Its circumnavigation of the Earth takes twenty seven days and a bit to complete. It is because it is so close, that it is the only space object that a human has ever walked on, other than the Earth of course. The moon is important for the Earth because it causes the tides through gravitational forces between the Earth and the moon. Because it’s close enough to see clearly with the naked eye, kids are often drawn to astronomy by it.

Then there’s our sun. Earth is quite far from the sun. The distance fluctuates between about 91 million miles and about 94 million miles, although these measurements are not completely accurate. They are inaccurate measurements, because the Earth orbits the sun in an uneven ellipse. Life on Earth is only possible because of the sun, because it provides us with important elements such as light and heat. It is not a well-known fact that the sun contains about 98% of all the mass available in the solar system. Think about how small a person is compared to that – it is truly imponderable!

We live in the galaxy of the Milky Way. It’s full of the material of which space consists, although even with all this stuff to fill it, it’s mostly empty. That’s a lot of nothing because our galaxy is 100,000 light years across and 3,000 light years deep. We’re somewhere in the neighborhood of 30,000 light years from the galactic central core. The nothingness is broken up by over 100 billion stars. In fact the galaxy takes its name from the appearance of the band of stars that shines from the main section of the galaxy. People thought it looked like a stream of milk and so called it the Milky Way. It’s a spiral galaxy, one of the four major types of galaxies in the universe. The other types are elliptical, lenticular and irregular.

There is a lot of information about astronomy fit for children on the Internet. From dictionaries and encyclopedic references to programs that show different planets, solar systems and objects right on the computer! There’s more information than a child could ever read.

Astronomy is a very serious science, although many people get involved with it when they are very young. Astronomy for kids is a thought provoking pursuit that can teach them about the sciences in general. A number of astronomy subjects interest kids and movies like Star Wars only serve to increase this attraction.

Our only natural satellite is called the moon. Its path around the Earth takes just over twenty seven days to complete. Man’s knowledge being what it is and because the moon is so close, it is the only space object that mankind has ever set foot on, except for the Earth of course. The effects of gravity between the moon and Earth causes the tides. The moon is one of the first objects that sparks a child’s interest in astronomy because it can be clearly seen with the human eye.

Then there’s our sun. Earth is quite far from the sun. The distance fluctuates between about 91 million miles and about 94 million miles, although these measurements are not completely accurate. They are inaccurate measurements, because the Earth orbits the sun in an uneven ellipse. It is not a well-known fact that the sun contains about 98% of all the mass available in the solar system. Think about how small a person is compared to that – it is truly imponderable!

Our sun and solar system reside in a galaxy called the Milky Way. Just as other galaxies, ours contains gas and clouds of dust, stars and planets and other space materials. Even with all this stuff to fill it, it’s mostly empty. That’s a lot of nothingness because our galaxy is 100,000 light years across and 3,000 light years deep. The center of our galaxy is about 30,000 light years from Earth. The nothingness is broken up by over 100 billion stars. The galaxy’s name comes from the many stars near the center. From Earth it looks like a Milky Way, a large pool of milk. Our galaxy is called a spiral galaxy as opposed to the other three main types which are elliptical, lenticular and irregular.

You can find a wealth of resources concerning astronomy for teens on the world wide web. Kids could spend hours wrapped in detailed 3D representations of the universe around us.

by Ajeet Khurana

Quite simply, a gear is a cylindrical object with a series of grooves in its sides. A gear works in relation to other gears in the internal mechanics of many different types of machinery. When one gear is rotated, either by a motor or some other means, that gear rotates the next gear, and so on and so forth.

A good model that many of us are likely intimate with is the basic analog clock. If you were to disassemble one, you would find a rather complex series of gears, along with springs and batteries. As long as the power supply is still in place, you can even watch the gears in activity, to get a introductory idea of how they work.

To begin using gears, a first gear is placed, followed by a second of the same size. The grooves are interlaced at a point. When this configuration is reached, spinning one gear in a clockwise direction would cause the other gear to spin in a counter-clockwise direction at the same rate of spin.

Many other gears of the same size could be added, and their spins would also depend on their orientation to the manually spun gear. This configuration is also not necessarily two-dimensional, since gears can also be interlaced at right angles to each other. Given proper supports, it is possible to have a very complex three-dimensional series of gears, which would all spin on their own in response to the manual spinning of one.

In addition, gears of different sizes can be joined together, as long as their grooves were identically spaced. In this case, if the larger gears were manually spun in a clockwise direction, then the smaller gear would spin counter-clockwise as mentioned above, but in this case the smaller gear would spin at a faster rate than the larger gear. Between gears, belts can also be added, in order to spin those gears, which may not actually be touching.

As far as using gears in machines, there are a variety of options. The process can be begun manually, with a simply crank or handle used to spin the first gear. Another option is to use a motor along with a power source to spin the first gear. Either method would suffice to run the machine to which it is equipped. And alternative use for gears, however, is their ability to help turn manpower into energy.

With the right setup, a manually turned gear can be used to power a motor, which can create electricity. An example of this is a hand-powered flashlight. Compression of the handle causes the gears to turn, which charges the motor, which causes the light to come on.

With a little investigation, it becomes apparent how gears play a part in almost all of the machinery around us every day. With a little knowledge, it is possible to begin to build complex mechanical devices. This simple shape has given us the ability to create the world we live in today.
